I honestly think that one of the big problems with a "civics education" as we understand it is that it's premised on the idea that the system as currently constituted is a good system and we have a duty to try to maintain it Based on basically no evidence

I think that there's a better than even chance that any immediate subsequent iteration of the revolutionary effort would have wound up measurably WORSE in all particulars for all parties involved. Not least because England was still hovering around the margins of the new country.

The British officers stationed in Upper Canada were pretty sure they could take back the 13 colonies, which is why they pushed for war in 1812 when Britain proper thought the whole thing would just be a couple minor border disputes.
