But that's not what the book is saying. Shrier is pretty explicit: trans adults are not responsible for the trend, and the trend is being generated by young women themselves. This is not the "gays are coming for your boys" crap that conservatives spread around in the 90s.

I don't think Big Pharma ever does, and in the book and in interviews, Shrier describes doctors of several stances on this subject. In interviews, she faults surgeons who perform mastectomies without referral letters who don't follow up with their patients.
