The whole central theme of HHGG is that there are no answers worth finding, not really (the big answer, the Ultimate Question to the Ultimate Answer, is "What do you get when you multiply six by nine?) And it makes this point by making you sit through a surfeit of stupid answers

And that even looking for meaningful answers means you're asking the wrong questions. The universe is confused and daft and there isn't some big plan, and you have to choose how you deal with that--rage against it, refuse to believe it, embrace it, etc.
