A while ago I learned the original Chinese name for a kiwifruit (which is originally from China, and was rebranded as a New Zealand thing thanks to Cold War tensions) is a "monkey peach" This is a 1000x better name and makes me far more interested in eating them

The national fruit of China is peaches, probably what I consider the ideal fruit The word "peach" in English and its scientific name (Prunus persica) are both derived from "Persia", because Europeans got them from the Orient (the Romans said malum persicum, Persian apple)

Of course the version of the peach considered sacred in The Journey to the West and used as an ingredient in the elixir of immortality was the flat peach ("donut peach" in America), which I personally do not care for

Flat peaches are generally more on the white peach end of the scale, with the mild sweet flavor, while I'm a fan of tart yellow peaches
