A while ago I learned the original Chinese name for a kiwifruit (which is originally from China, and was rebranded as a New Zealand thing thanks to Cold War tensions) is a "monkey peach" This is a 1000x better name and makes me far more interested in eating them

The whole thing about calling a kiwifruit a kind of peach is that it's like this tradeoff, the skin is too thick and fuzzy to eat but there's no pit

That said, one of the alternate Chinese names for a kiwifruit is "yangtao" ("strawberry peach"), so you're not the first person to have that thought

The "yang" in "yangtao" isn't actually the name for a strawberry, it comes from the "yangmei", a strawberry-like Chinese fruit that's called the "Chinese strawberry" in English This stuff gets complicated
