"Monkey peach" is goddamn marketing gold, I can't believe they just let that go Admittedly, "kiwifruit" becomes a much better name when you find out that it's because the fruit looks almost exactly like the bird if it didn't have a head or limbs

It's technically more specific than "monkey", it's a "macaque peach" (mihoutao) I'm not clear on whether it's because they have brown fur like a macaque or because macaques eat them (The latter doesn't make sense to me - do macaques not eat regular peaches)

Anyway I'm a little mad because New Zealand did successfully steal the brand of this fruit, even though the majority of kiwifruit are still grown in China Even my mom thought kiwifruit were from New Zealand when I told her about this

She totally had one of those "I was today years old" moments where the wheels turned in her head and she was like "Wait, mahoutao and kiwifruit are the same thing?" (She hadn't heard them called by the former name since childhood)
