The vast majority of countries that used to have this problem addressed it by abolishing the peerage entirely The idea that this is some difficult pie in the sky task and we need to make a gender neutral peerage as an intermediate step is fucking laughablehttps://twitter.com/SophieRunning/status/1327884125634703363 …

I mean shit the so-called Victorian era, when the biggest empire in the world was ruled by a Queen, is not generally considered a high water mark for feminism
-
It turned out to be fairly complementary to the system where the monarch had mostly ceremonial duties, and the all-male parliament could run the country.

OK, so there's a lot of parts to it. The first thing is separating the title and seat at House of Lords from material stuff. First is naturally a part of a big mess in it self, but wtf is this bullshit where it is legal for first born man to inherit unlimited amount of the wealth

Peerage is silly, but if you're going to have it then it should be gender neutral. And as the republicans are not about to take over the UK, you take this (not especially important) win and move on.
-
I wouldn't vote against it or anything, but it's not a great thing to spend any effort on, especially in an American magazine.

I mean, there is a certain about of "class politics don't do shit for anyone but white men unless you first take the intersectional caps off how much everyone else is *allowed* to prosper" in there, but yeah, I don't know that raising the already-highest glass ceiling is It.

I legitimately believe that Thatcher poisoned feminism in the UK at this point. I really do.
