You mean just saying the letters A-Z? Our names for the letters aren't great for everyday conversation, they sound too similar and are easily confused for each other ("Bee" rhymes with "dee" and "pea", etc.) It's why we have the NATO spelling alphabet (alpha-bravo-charlie)

There are very few well-known names in English that start with Q, U, X, Y and Z and they'd have to start repeating them very quickly

Naming tropical storms after people, and changing the names from year to year, is very helpful in terms of helping people mentally keep track of them and keep them distinct (And it marks a particular hurricane in history when a very destructive hurricane's name gets "retired")
