There's people in the comments raising objections about how blurring the boundary between wildlife and pets as this guy is doing is dangerous to both animals and humans and destructive to the environment etc All I can say is for raccoons that ship has sailedhttps://twitter.com/Nymphomachy/status/1326422520623476738 …

If we actually did somehow establish an impregnable boundary between wildlife and human civilization by, I dunno, finally solving the problem of making raccoon-unhackable trash cans, they'd just all die - there's no wild food source that could possibly support their numbers

That's the whole thing, every time they make some advance in the arms race against raccoon plunder like the supposedly raccoon proof latches they put on trash cans people's "raccoon problems" go UP By a LOT

Raccoons are all cuddly and chonky like this when they're well fed and when they're not they get desperate and mean and a lot less likable But they do get fed either way They're pretty good at not getting driven to extinction, we've tried

In urban areas, yes — suburban and rural they still have a more varied diet. Anything from bugs to berries to frogs. And roadkill, though one could argue that’s back to human-supplied, at least in quantity. Animals do die without people but... well.

In this case this guy has responded to people's objections saying he's examined their feces and these raccoons are still getting plant fiber in their diet, they're not 100% subsisting on his hot dogs

I think only rats and deer would survive without humans but only in places with mild winter. Serious winter alone would wipeout most of this animal. Food be none issue compare to the brutal winter. Most of this animals are tropical without our warm houses they be dead.
