The reason why raccoons are good is because they know they COULD get the hot dogs faster if they just zerged him but they understand that making a good impression better ensures future handouts of hot dogshttps://twitter.com/donmoyn/status/1326388509385629698 …

Wolves were domesticated into doggos by understanding they could be more cute and less aggressive. I look forward to pando pets of the future.

The problem is that raccoons are natural vagrants; you can't domesticate an animal that has no sense of a domicile E.g., even an outdoor cat will return "home" because it has a sense of what home is A raccoon has no such sense of "home", it's predisposed to wander

Well, again, it's a spectrum, like these raccoons clearly know where their next meal is coming from Cats, which are very recently domesticated, basically have to be brainwashed into accepting a house as an actual home, many feral cats never do

It is pretty funny to read the section of the Wikipedia page warning people not to adopt raccoons with your fursona in mindpic.twitter.com/lQsksm9jIu

I've seen anthropologists suggest that cats are in fact the first animal that we domesticated, even prior to dogs. I've even seen that extended to the idea that cats domesticated *us* and all human society exists solely to provide places for their prey to congregate for them.

I guess it depends on your definition of "domestication" but cats show much less physical or behavioral change from their wild counterparts compared to dogs
