Maybe these raccoons won't be rolling over and playing tricks anytime soon but as you say they know not to bite the hand that feeds

Especially since those are the fattest raccoons I have ever seen.

I looked the guy up and he says this whole thing started with his wife, who was a big old softie who rescued cats and who had a habit of feeding wildlife despite the official admonitions not to do it And when she died young from cancer in 2013 he promised to honor her memory

He's fed the raccoons religiously since then He said a while back he almost stopped doing it, because he'd stopped seeing any of the original raccoons she'd been feeding and realized they must have died of old age

He's retired and on a fixed income, and pays for the hot dogs himself but as the raccoon population has grown has taken to leveraging his social media fame to ask for donations if you want to see a video of the raccoons getting a special treat

There's videos of him allowing other people to sit on his bench and feed the raccoons for him for a day, although the raccoons are understandably much warier and less demonstrative in such circumstances

It is kind of sad that this is not sustainable long term and he will eventually die and the raccoons' whole economic system will be upended Although I guess it's been like centuries in raccoon years

"Legends speak of the Golden Age, when the gods walked freely among raccoons and hot dogs flowed like water It was a time of heroes, when even the pudgiest of those alive today would be a starvling whelp compared to the Pudgy Kings of Old"
