Well, really, the distinction between "faeries" and "gods" is just a matter of the relationship Cf. the feels of a raccoon watching a human let a cat go inside the house

It's a sliding scale, like dogs tend to literally WORSHIP humans the way the Bible says you're supposed to, cats are more like people who have generally positive feelings about God but are non-practicing

This precise dynamic is why Pugmire exists. Dogs created the Church of Man, cats are mildly disappointed that their staff/worshippers have left, but at least they left all the good toys behind...

I see that in this setting all mustelids are despised by dogs and cats alike as uncivilized outcast barbarians

Domesticated animals would literally describe wild animals as "godless", although these raccoons have clearly found a semblance of a patron deity

Raccoons are more like warlocks; they cut bargains rather than give worship

Well it's like what they stereotype as "primitive" worship (which is a chauvinistic attitude from cultures that had a more "developed" religion) You believe spirits are real but you don't fully understand them, you just try to be nice to them so they don't mess with you

Like the Tumblr post about humans as faeries People in Europe who obviously don't believe in the old pagan gods but who will still divert a roadway so it doesn't pass through a fairy circle

Maybe these raccoons won't be rolling over and playing tricks anytime soon but as you say they know not to bite the hand that feeds

Especially since those are the fattest raccoons I have ever seen.
