The thing that got me: Tube-based systems are not good at queueing things up anyway. Water pipes don't give you your water _late_ if other people are using too much water. Sewer pipes don't slow down if full, they _reject_ if full. What sort of metaphor is this?

Even pneumatic tubes don't work that way. They are single path systems that only one thing can use at a time, which does mean they get backed up...but they get backed up at the _sender_, not in the tubes! Like, what system of tubes works like 'his email was delayed'?
