I'm pretty happy to say we're better than England. In the general history of the world, the main thing worse than American rule was British rule. And the main thing worse than British rule was French rule.
-
I mean, there are aspects of the USA that are worse, at various points in time. But they're largely situational; the US has been much more committed to the main positive values that the British prided themselves on.

The book Albion's Seed was about this thesis Arguing that all of America's distinctly dysfunctional flavors of white people are just descendants of subcultures they had in England, that became the exaggerated worst versions of themselves when they all got their own states

Like we all know Massachusetts got started because England's fundie wackjobs left to found their own colony where they could do as much Jesus shit as they wanted but the argument is they were all like that in some way

Oh to be clear I mean it mainly in the negative sense of “at least we’re not….” Trump got less votes than his competitor in 2016 while Brexit won an outright majority of the electorate

I feel like even America's constitutional insistence on having a unified US Presidency, instead of a ceremonial US Presidency and a governing US Prime Minister, is founded in 18th-century England's executive Crown
-
There is definitely an argument that there were two paths British politics could've taken in the 18th century and Britain itself picked one and America took the other
