It's a weird thing, because you'd imagine that people want power. But they often don't, because it comes with responsibility. Not enough, but it gets people mad at you. So they want status instead.

I would agree with this if it wasn't for COVID. Lots of Democrats are suboptimal but none of them are monsters, they all think the government should respond to crises, and none of them would let Republicans filibuster COVID relief (or a new Voting Rights Act for that matter)
