Unfamiliar shops in LA give me social anxiety which 95% of the time is unfounded but then one time I walked into a smoothie place that literally didn't have any menus, it was empty of other customers and the guy was staring at me so I had to approach like "Uhh w-what do you have"

LA is home to a pancake restaurant that *doesn’t serve maple syrup*, and whose employees are I’m sure just waiting for someone to request it so they can embarrass them by explaining at great length the restaurant’s Whole Deal With Not Serving Syrup. No thank you!

Wait? Do they actually have some janky philosophical opposition to maple?

I can’t remember what the rationale was, but they were featured as the first segment in Worth It’s pancake episode. I do remember that they don’t serve bacon either, because sausage is somehow more sustainable.

I mean, real maple syrup can be expensive. Even where I live, a place where maple syrup is produced, some restaurants can't afford it. Nobody tries to justify it as anything other than cost saving though. The sausage thing I can kinda see... but like, just serve neither then?

Well yeah but maple flavored corn syrup is not expensive and IHOP gives you as much of it as you want But food snobs hate anything made with high fructose corn syrup (as well as generally hating cheap substitutes made for a "real" regional food)
