Every US President has publicly claimed to believe in God, as Trump obviously has And there are past Presidents who seemed "not very religious", most notably Jefferson and Lincoln But Trump is the one where it's utterly obvious the concept of God never mattered to him at all

OR spirituality, OR community, OR tradition, or whatever other squishy concepts you want to define "religion" by None of them His whole life philosophy was just not giving a shit and doing whatever the fuck he wanted

And it deeply offends me because I don't actually like religion and I want to be able to say the worst President was a Christian who used Christianity to justify his sins But I have to grudgingly admit it's just not, in any intellectually honest sense, true

The upside is that it's this ultimate debasement of the actual wingnut Christians and everything they're supposed to stand for Mike Pence, unlike Trump, obviously is very very Christian He's just a fucking shitty Christian

They're all fucking shit You'd think this would be the one thing they'd draw a line over out of the barest sense of their own dignity But no they just all went with it when he claimed the Bible was his favorite book ever but couldn't actually quote a single Bible verse

There's the Emperor having no clothes and then there's the Emperor walking into your most sacred place buck fucking naked and planting his sweaty ass right on the altar and making you pretend you don't see the skidmark when he gets up

I was big into the new atheist movement in the late aughts. Reading anything more than a single common belief from an atheist is a waste of time. Its tempting to want the same kind of commonality that believers have, but it just isn't there.

I don't think it counts as atheism if you think you're God.

"Atheist" implies an "ism" that isn't there. Trump's religiosity/philosophy isn't even a null value, it's like if you gave him a math test & he simply autographed it & handed it back to you.

As a former born-and-raised Evangelical it's just as frustrating how the religious right claimed Trump as their savior. He is literally the embodiment of everything evil we were taught to reject. But American Christianity is inseparable & indistinguishable from Cons politics now.

I mean I don't share their values at all and yet I'm still seething at how easily they abandoned them Partly because the hypocrisy is obviously selective, like they're not going to stop shaming divorcees in their own congregations after "forgiving" Trump
