To the extent that lockdowns work they work BECAUSE they are universal They work because EVERYONE is following the rules, so one person's slip-up here and there has a reduced impact And because the social pressure of everyone doing it makes the "good choices" easier

The libertarian solution of "Everyone just decides their own acceptable risk profile and modifies their behavior accordingly" is fucking idiotic It's the equivalent of saying we don't need speed limits -- if you're worried about an accident, just drive slower than everyone else

That's what they wanted to do in the UK, right? Forcibly isolate the high-risk population for a month against their will while low-risk people ran around infecting each other? That plan lasted about 36 hours, if I recall. And ended with the PM getting COVID.
