*Maybe* in the series finale the feckless bad-boy fuckup brother of the protagonist is having his big birthday bash with all the main characters present and then someone smashes through the skylight in an orange jumpsuit and pumpkinhead mask and takes them all hostage

See I always hoped this would happen on Gilmore Girls Like the revival would have Jess come back and try to reignite his relationship with Rory but then tearfully admit that the reason it never worked out between them is he's always lived a double life she can't be part of

He won't reveal what it is, and tries to disappear, but Rory uses her ace reporter skills to track him down to his secret hideout and watches him put on this high-tech power armor with a stylized cage mask and a huge hydraulic glove "Oh my God... Jess is the Catcher in the Rye"

My idea along those lines of a disease-of-the-week medical show like House, but every season there's one or two cases where they just can't figure it out before the patient dies. As the seasons go on, these few cases get weirder and weirder.
-
In the season finale of the second-to-last season, they're on another such case when a character like John Constantine or the Winchesters shows up and explains that these "diseases" have been demonic possession, and then in the final season the show turns into Supernatural.

I used to think Supergirl should have had a vapid socialite character who slept until noon every day, and was an hour late for every event, and was named "Kate Kane". Same idea. Of course that's not quite what Kate's civilian persona was in the later comics.

I'm reminded of an Astro City storyline centering on an actor who played a superhero in a soap opera, who winds up being tangentially involved in some crime fighting and becomes the center of media attention as everyone asks if he's going to become the real thing.
