You know the really interesting thing about this -- The actual show Supernatural for the past several seasons has had very little in the way of romance for the main characters at all Because of this dynamic where they know people tuning in for the non-canon ships

Sounds like it's the same problem all the hardcore old EU fans had with TLJ. "It's not what's in my head!" Also I am super glad I just sort of never got into that one show I saw where two dudes hunted a ghost with a shotgun now. Seems it didn't go well.

Oh yeah I did like the extra touch where in this most recent episode they brought back Charlie and gave her an actual relationship with another human woman (something they'd avoided the whole time she was a recurring guest star) only to then immediately kill them both

That's less the Classic Bury Your Gays that Castiel's whole thing was and more the kind of Modern Bury Your Gays that's a result of "The gays don't have a series regular contract so we have very limited time in our shooting schedule for them" But still
