It's hard not to conclude that the degree of parody here is just the point of the show now, right? The ONLY way to pull that to a conclusion is to continue to frustrate the shippers.

Why though? No one complained when She-Ra made Catradora happen. WHAT EXACTLY PREVENTS AN INCREDIBLY NICHE ADULT LIVE ACTION SHOW THAT IS ENDING FROM CANONIZING ITS GAYS IN THE LAST EPISODE

Did I ever tell you about the extent to which getting into online fandom as relatively early as I did meant people were willing/able to say, like not as subtext, that any male character, ever, being gay was intrinsically out of character?

You know, not :) that there’s anything :) /wrong/ :) with that :) as long as you know what you’re doing :) imaginative play is important :) just don’t get it twisted :) :) :), but I do predate saying ‘queer men aren’t a thing that exists’ being something requiring euphemisms.

The Supernatural fandom and its shippers are mostly straight women, right?

Are they the ones focusing intensely on the m/m ships, though? I realize my comment was general, but I was thinking mostly about that.

Iirc maybe? There's definitely a cadre of straight shippers who also (?) harassed the actors (?) but putting the RPF com in a corner, i feel like its the same distribution as any other of the Big Three Tumblr Fandoms? Its also not where omegaverse comes from.

oh, no, not where it comes from, but it found prominence in there and fuckin' blew up

It is, in fact, where it comes from - Omegaverse has its roots in the "werewolf genre" (and hence in the fandom for stuff like Teen Wolf) but the first known fic to contain all of the defining Omegaverse tropes was a J/J rpf written for a kink exchange

I stand corrected, I had assumed it was a combined outgrowth of sentinel/guide, seme/uke (which I saw using the same mpreg tropes way back in like 2012), and teen wolf.

Well yeah it is but the shining moment where all these tropes came together ("I want a world where there are two species of men, one of whom gets impregnated by the other, with knotting involved") specifically was someone requesting Jared Padalecki impregnated by Jensen Ackles
