Musk isn't a technnocrat though, he's just a tech bro.

His company announced their intention to start their own country on Mars

What's wrong with wanting to start your own country on another planet? Hell, we did it on this planet. (obviously not ethically but that's less of a worry on an uninhabited planet)

Look at how Elon Musk abuses his workers in somebody else's country and then ask yourself what it'd be like if he got to write all the laws

So it would be a good idea to get him off of this planet then, right? And then anyone who follows him deals with the consequences. Or, are we supposed to interfere since we're the big, bad United States?

The way several of the OG American colonies financed their startup labor costs by exploiting indentured servants would today be considered trafficking and a crime against humanity

Absolutely, as it should. But I'm talking about volunteers that could follow him to Mars - not slaves he takes with him. Those people would have to deal with whatever comes, no?

Most human trafficking that takes place these days is technically voluntary, the person signs up out of economic desperation

Also, any initial trips to Mars will likely be a one-way trip intended to start a permanent colony, because the back-and-forth travel cost is so immense So you're talking about a contract that it's physically impossible to escape, that would continue for multiple generations

Exactly. For the chance at a new life for yourself and descendants. I would do it with a proper contract that guarantees my pre-reqs. But anything that went sideways would be incidental and could I really complain?

Your descendants didn't get any choice to opt into that contract and it is fundamentally immoral to say that someone can sign away basic human rights as guaranteed by international law on their descendants' behalf

That's why I think the descendants should get to negotiate their own contracts to direct their own life on Mars/whatever planet.

Okay and who's going to guarantee that if SpaceX is a sovereign entity completely independent of the laws of the US or any other nation as well as international law under the UN
