Congrats on entirely missing the point. And she didn't always do her reading or pay attention to the world around her. She called Kaepernick's protests "dumb" without even knowing what the fuck it was about.https://www.vox.com/identities/2016/10/14/13289256/ruth-bader-ginsburg-kaepernick-harsh …

Democrats controlled the Senate in 2013, and if McConnell had tried to permanently block Ginsburg's replacement Democrats could've nuked the filibuster for SCOTUS confirmation the way they just had for the lower courts, and as McConnell did anyway four years later

...Yes, because you need a majority to change procedural rules like the filibuster, and in 2016 the Democrats were in the minority They could've nuked the filibuster *in 2013, when they were in the majority* It's not actually complicated

You don't need a supermajority to nuke the filibuster That's the whole point If you had a supermajority you wouldn't need to nuke the filibuster, you could just override it Harry Reid invoked the "nuclear option" to amend cloture rules on Nov. 21, 2013, by a 52-48 vote

It only applied to the lower courts because there were no Supreme Court seats up for a vote, because RBG didn't retire If she had, and if McConnell blocking her replacement had become headline news, it probably would've

This actually speaks to a certain kind of liberal delusion I don't know how you can confidently claim that "Mitch McConnell had a supermajority" when most of the politics of the past several decades had been driven by NOBODY having a supermajority

It was huge, headline news when the Dems got that magic number 60 ONCE, in 2008, on Obama's coattails And people treated it as a once-in-a-lifetime historic shock, they said it was a sign the Republican Party was over and we were looking at realignment

"Mitch McConnell had a supermajority you idiot!" speaks to you being really embarrassingly ignorant for someone whose Twitter account is all about politics It also speaks to just how far you're willing to go to make excuses for Democrats

Nothing, at all, can ever be the fault of liberals because the instant anything goes badly for them Republicans turn into a massive unstoppable horde who outnumber us 100-1 Anything at all Democrats accomplish turns into this heroic act of #Resistance

And they only had it very briefly, as Al Franken wasn’t immediately seated because of recount lawsuits, and Ted Kennedy passed away and was replaced with Scott Brown special election.

And I mean, we were. It was just realignment away from neoconservatism and Bush's alleged "compassionate conservatism", and towards fascist race-baiting.
