Honestly the longer I think about it the harder it is not to be pissed at RBG for not retiring in 2013 Like the nicest thing you can say about her decision is she was wildly overoptimistic

She couldn't have predicted Scalia would die when he did either; that's not even the seat at issue here. The only thing she had to know was that she was, herself, mortal, and that Democrats wouldn't have the presidency and the Senate forever.

RBG's game plan was really obviously based on taking a bunch of 80% chances - or, hell, 60% chances - and treating them like 100% chances Treat it as a certainty Scalia will die first, Obama will push a moderate through, then Hillary will win the election and retake the Senate

Other people DID predict it - many of them - in 2013, and got yelled at for making that prediction You cannot play the "Nobody could've foreseen this" card, it demonstrably WAS FORESEEN
