A lot of moralizing about the horrific things done by the Soviets in the war is complaining from people who reaped most of the benefits of the Axis being defeated in WWII while paying a fairly small share of the costs
Well, set up a process among everyone liberated from the camps, hold elections, figure it out It wouldn't be perfect but it'd probably be more just than what we got

Most likely, just as a baseline, a council of survivors would've voted themselves big cash reparations, which would've been more than fair (and is more important than any other form of "vengeance")

Want to know a secret? Some of the trials did. Some trials did include testimonies either damning or supporting. Plenty of “last minute” interviews with survivors noting on that.
