No, because this actually existed 20 years earlier as The Worst Witch and was substantially less popular because it was a "girls' book"https://twitter.com/GailSimone/status/1322209282637537280 …

Not trying to make any big point, just curious to hear your thoughts. Would Harry Potter have been as successful if the lead character had been female? If it had been Harriet Potter, would there be theme park lands and the same book sales?

It's amazing how much of the Harry Potter series you can sum up by just saying "It's the plot and setting of The Worst Witch but with the protagonist swapped out with Tim Hunter from The Books of Magic"

plus Rowling herself said multiple times that her publishers asked her to go by her initials instead of Joanna to make herself sound gender-neutral so that boys would buy the book, which they wouldn't if they thought the author was a woman

also Rowling hates women so a female lead in this series would just make the books exponentially worse

Yeah, but it’s not so popular with all the folks who like to reinforce the popular stereotypes.

The books about a school boys and girls attend are more popular than the one with a girls-only school? Imagine that! There are only 4 male characters in that entire series? A toad, a tortoise, a wizard who only shows up for Halloween, and a wizard (?) shapeshifted into a frog?

You recommended worst witch and my six year old has now read them all. They are adorable. Now she has a lot of stuffed cats and does 'magic' with my broom. Which I can rarely find now. I should buy her her own. Anyway it's a good series for kids, can be read at a younger age.

It does NOT have dead parents. The disney/kid lit thing of dead parents I get from an adult story building pov but I think it's not great for most kids. I think under an certain age instability is anxiety producing. Good friendships. Not so focused on broken trust.
