That's an infosec thing too, like yeah if you know you're under scrutiny then you don't simply vanish, you give yourself a fake footprint, and the higher the stakes the more elaborate the fake footprint (including intentionally putting fake compromising data in it)

I'll say that in certain contexts it applies, in that some completely heinous people love to advertise in public how they love empathy, they love kindness, they encourage radical gentleness or whatever gibberish put together that week, and in private they write poison-pen letters
