True, and this mistake has repeated countless times throughout history. The other side always “believe” that the other side is misguided. Northerners even after the Civil War thought that Southerners were misguided and not willing participants in protecting slavery.

I'm not sure I completely agree. While it's definitely true most of the time I have known people who were raised on ideologies and beliefs that they assumed were true but absolutely were eventually reasoned out of it.

It benefits them to keep the bar of facts at “can you change my mind?” the same way it benefits them to keep the bar of racism at “can you prove what’s in my heart?” Both because 1. Obviously no, and that’s the point and 2. Most people still will try.
