whenever I play a video game set in present-day that has an old-school tube TV or a CRT monitor in the background I want to scream

I mean the left also used "colour TV" as a rhetorical device for middle-class decadence for long after colour became common (see Redgum's song "It Doesn't Matter To Me")
-
That's how Dire Straits use it in "Money for Nothing", too. Microwave ovens, custom kitchens, refrigerators and colour TVs.

But black and white lasted well into yours and my lifetimes. Yes, that was a stupid comment that I just made. I felt the need to say it. For some reason I want young people to know this pointless minutiae.

I'm old enough to remember my grandfather keeping like a treasure his black and white TV which had costed him an arm and a leg because it was the peak of technology when he had bought it (you could switch channels! Can you believe it? SWITCH Channels!)

At this point we're running out of CRT TVs that still _work_, for that matter. It's a bit like having a black-and-white TV in, like, 2000.

If I filled my cart with "flat screen TVs", I'd end up with less value then if I filled it with food, that's how cheap they are now, and yes I watch too much super market sweep.
