In terms of a good horror monster for the day, I think we need more use of werewolves as representing both conventional fash and MAGA types.

The "seemingly normal and wholesome" people who abruptly rip off their day-to-day norms of civility and compassion and are practically replaced by slavering, resentful monsters, grotesquely hypermasculine or frenzied, eager to hunt and terrorize the weak and vulnerable.

I could see it working well, but as always, I would want a strong character centric story if I was writing it.Protest stories don't always work, and I've written a few. (Some do but almost all the ones I can think of have been misinterpreted, which is hard to do w character drama)

It's worth noting that -- anticipating the discourse re: Native appropriation with Twilight -- Werewolves in the World of Darkness appropriate Native-sounding terminology, calling themselves "Tribes" etc., but are mostly white people

Is there any actual basis for werewolves in any North American indigenous population's stories etc.?

Well, the Navajo famously have legends of skinwalkers, but these legends are about skinwalkers being unnatural and evil (to the point that even discussing them is considered bad luck) and the New Agey "reclamation" of skinwalkers as a positive thing is highly offensive

That's why people were so fucking pissed about JKR just casually deciding skinwalkers were harmless Animagi and the negative legends were created by Navajo shamans to hide that they were charlatans and the skinwalkers were the true wizards
