Body integrity idenity disorder is not treated this way. In fact, it is completely and entirely disaffirmed. As it should be. As "trans" should be. And would be, if it were not for perverted politics.

I mean, no, this is false There are, in fact, case reports of people with BIID who've had an amputation, which appears to have resolved their condition Those are the cases the TERFs have seized on to start their moral panichttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4094630/ …

I mean. Literally the only thing we know that will resolve persistent BIID. Doctors are really fucking resistant to amputate healthy limbs for obvious reasons, but it is the ONLY TREATMENT WE KNOW OF THAT HELPS. Therapy doesn't do a damn thing for BIID sufferers.

And in fact in many cases what happens if you "disaffirm" it is people try home amputations with like, kitchen knives and chainsaws and shit.

(I'm pretty sure that's how there's any research at all -- some of them manage to do themselves enough damage that surgeons have had to give up and amputate the affected limb. Which resolves the BIID. Which seems to indicate that yeah, we COULD save everyone a lot of trouble.)

Severe BIID is rare as shit, but seriously, sufferers are CRIPPLINGLY unhappy. Is amputating a healthy limb anyone's favorite idea? Of course not. But is it really better to have someone die by suicide? PROBABLY NOT.

Sorry, this is kind of a hobbyhorse of mine because BIID is the disorder that transphobes AND EVERYONE ELSE uses as the "these people are obviously too crazy to be indulged" disease, but IT REALLY IS NOT THAT EASY.

JK Rowling was giving away her TERFitude when she has Cormoran Strike, an amputee war veteran, flip the fuck out about encountering a BIID amputee support group As though there actually are enough of them in one country for such a group to exist

And as though anyone cares enough about this issue to write a whole book about it except for TERFs who see BIID as an analogy to trans people

The analogy is, of course, an unflattering one for JKR's own view of womanhood Getting incensed because other people voluntarily chose womanhood, whereas she had womanhood inflicted on her by the Taliban while doing her duty to her country
