Are you seriously saying that you think dysphoria - a mental dissatisfaction with one's healthy body - is best treated by major surgery on the body, causing potential infertility & loss of sexual function, and by taking untested drugs?? Rather than just dealing with the distress?

The thing about the politicized "detrans" communities is that just like the "ex-gay" communities before them, they're pretty much lying about there being a "talking cure" for dysphoria If you peek at their own discussions with each other dysphoria is still a constant struggle

Yeah no If you go really broad then yeah there's no "final cure" for anything, we all know that transition doesn't make dysphoria suddenly vanish But it works a hell of a lot better at alleviating dysphoria than any form of therapy does

This conversation is confused to begin with because "depression" should really be thought of as a symptom or cluster of symptoms that we think of as one "condition" for convenience's sake There is no one cause of depression, there are many - and some of those CAN be "cured"

Some people actually do in fact stop being depressed, and while they obviously aren't perfectly happy for the rest of their lives they return to what people think of as a "normal" baseline It's not typical but it's hardly rare either

It usually accompanies a major change in life circumstances, which then leads them to retroactively say you didn't really have conical but situational depression on your chart

Arguing that this is impossible is sometimes a noble effort to keep people from throwing caution to the wind and just stopping therapy out of the blue, sure It's also historically been a very common way to gaslight people into not making life changes you happen to disapprove of

"Leaving your husband and living in sin with another woman won't magically cure your depression, you know! It isn't the answer to all of life's problems! You'll still be unhappy a lot of the time!" Etc
