Are you seriously saying that you think dysphoria - a mental dissatisfaction with one's healthy body - is best treated by major surgery on the body, causing potential infertility & loss of sexual function, and by taking untested drugs?? Rather than just dealing with the distress?

The thing about the politicized "detrans" communities is that just like the "ex-gay" communities before them, they're pretty much lying about there being a "talking cure" for dysphoria If you peek at their own discussions with each other dysphoria is still a constant struggle

Yeah no If you go really broad then yeah there's no "final cure" for anything, we all know that transition doesn't make dysphoria suddenly vanish But it works a hell of a lot better at alleviating dysphoria than any form of therapy does

This conversation is confused to begin with because "depression" should really be thought of as a symptom or cluster of symptoms that we think of as one "condition" for convenience's sake There is no one cause of depression, there are many - and some of those CAN be "cured"

Also, therapy also involves not just abstract discussions about your feelings, but ways to change your life and the way you live, to bring it in line with how you want it to be.

Yes, which is why it's wildly unethical for a therapist to put any life path that would clearly alleviate the patient's suffering off the table in favor of "coping strategies"

This is why therapy offered by social conservatives, i.e. Christian therapists and the like, is evil fake therapy "I'm miserable in my marriage and my wife makes me unhappy all the time" "Well, divorce is a sin, so let's look at coping strategies"

"You're being abused by your parents, but you are required to honor them, so coping strategies it is."
