To be fair, this is after he got fired by his publisher after repeatedly demanding they deliver a new set of pencils to his house, preferably sending an attractive young woman to do it, a demand he believed they only refused because the company was run by greedy Jewish misers https://twitter.com/erinbiba/status/1318998801311555587 …

The problem with Roald Dahl is that based on everything I know about him I literally cannot tell if this is a joke or real.

Oh, no, that part I believed without question. It's the "tried to get the publishers to have attractive young women deliver pencils to his doorstep" that could easily be either a true fact about him or a bit of satire about what a harasser he was, and I'm not sure which.

The man was VERY particular about always having a set of six freshly sharpened Dixon Ticonderoga No. 2 pencils on hand whenever he began his "process"

(He was also, like Dr. House, very obviously a profoundly damaged human being who was deliberately trying to push people away so he could perversely feel agency over being rejected Which is not any kind of excuse but does give some context)
