Well, it’s binary thinking in the service of exposing teens to danger and withholding the tools they need to navigate that danger. I’d call it “willfully uncritical” thinking.

It's the whole thing that defines a conservative ideology, that when you have an immediate disgust response you have to trust it, it's what God gave you to keep you safe from corruption and temptation

They just fundamentally don't like the concept of sex ed They don't like the idea of anyone actually educating kids about sex, to them that feels pretty much the same thing as grooming and destroying kids' innocence

They want to live in the world where kids stay innocent until the age of majority and then just "figure out" what they need to know because "it's basic biology", it's instinct Talking about it like it's actually a subject to be learned about consciously is gross, deviant, weird

They know enough to know that being anti-sex ed completely makes you an uncool person, one of those Religious Right people from America, so they claim not to be like THAT, but they really don't seem to think sex ed should consist of more than a conservative idea of "the basics"

But the guides they do make freely available are really fucking good I read through this and didn't find a single objectionable thing The idea that they're grooming girls to become disposable sex objects is a REALLY vicious canard https://www.theproudtrust.org/wp-content/uploads/download-manager-files/digital_TPT%20sex%20rel%20guide.pdf …

I am actually envious that there are kids who get materials like this for sex ed, and trying to remind myself that the UK is or was a cool country with a lot of cool people in it trying to do good things, and the ugly viciousness we're seeing is the angry backlash to that

Much like Germany in the 20s was the most sexually progressive, trans-friendly country in the world, until it suddenly wasn't
