"similar age" You quoted it yourself.

In the laws cited here, there's an age at which one can consent to sex with anybody and also minors can consent to sex with other minors provided they are of similar age. This is not contradictory and are in fact how the law works in most places.

This guy is doing that thing where he pretends that UK law is somehow completely definitive of the meaning of words (despite the fact that other places have other laws, and that legal usage != general usage). It's like when UK TERFs yell about how only men can commit rape.

Men and women can commit rape in the UK, clearly you're not very familiar with UK law. The age of consent is also clearly defined in UK law, is it not in your country?

You should probably tell your TERF countrypeople, then, because they constantly yell about how in the UK rape is defined as something something penis and therefore only men can commit rape.

The age of LEGAL consent is defined state-by-state in the US, and countrywide in Canada (both of those are "my country"). However, "consent" is not strictly a legal term; it is also a term that is in broad general usage.

So why are there age of consent laws if you believe minors can consent to sex?

Again, here are the age of consent laws in my home state. What part of this is unclear about who can consent to sex with whom?pic.twitter.com/eK2AcNe8N5

What part of 'minors cannot consent to sex' is unclear?

What part of "UK law is not actually binding on the entire rest of the world" is unclear?

The irony is if UK law were binding on the rest of the world it'd make the age of consent LOWER than it was in, say, California, where I grew up

Also lower than a lot of other US states, yeah. Although US states do, at this point, tend to have this framework of "graduated age of consent" which apparently has completely escaped the UK.
