And really that's as it should be, the fewer toxic chemicals you handle in the course of your education the better We don't talk enough about how the aesthetics of film vs. digital don't even come close to outweighing how film was an enormous environmental disaster

There's also a difference between "I am outraged" and "it is remarkable that people are younger than me by a lot and don't know things I take for granted"

I mean, it's a dunk of sorts, but it's also just a "time flies comma is weird" bit that everyone experiences from time to time. What's funniest, honestly, is that young fans really shouldn't have any idea what a dark room is.

I graduated high school ten years ago, well into the era of digital photography, and we were developing film. But I wouldn't be surprised if they don't do that any more.

My high school had a dark room, but by the time I entered in 2004 it was out of use completely in favour of digital. So it existed as nothing more than a curiosity for having a rotating door that would prevent light from getting in.

most, in my experience. I learnt it twice in different courses, alongside digital. Black & white photography is a whole different artform.

I'm surprised by how many folks are reading it as a dunk. I read it as amusement and astonishment at how quickly cultural context is changing

But then I suppose far too many adults DO view younger folks' ignorance of outdated things as a moral failing. And that never made much sense to me, either
