The only thing we use election infrastructure for is elections so the term "overcapacity" here is absurd and insane This is what "business school" thinking gets you, this memory-of-a-goldfish bottom-line shit -- "If I don't use this literally every day, might as well chuck it"https://twitter.com/asymmetricinfo/status/1316770586530545664 …

Is this related to how every theme park has huge lines and usually only 25-50% of their kiosks/queues actually open?

Just-in-time inventory works great. It's genuinely the best way to operate, all else being equal. The problem comes when your boss realizes that, after cutting costs 5% here & 5% there, there's no more 5% to cut, but his bonus (& yours) depends on you finding that yearly 5%.

Ties into never having enough people on a shift too. If five people can do a job at a reasonable pace, and with room for calls out sick, why not have three people do the job at a frantic pace and punish them for illness?

I remember my business classes saying that, yeah it's great if you want to keep inventory on hand low to avoid storage issues and have a constant, consistent supply line, but that the second that supply line has ANY issues whatsoever, you're out of everything and it becomes apic.twitter.com/y4lax2CDPm
