There's also ideas of second wave feminism coming up against third wave yadda yadda. In regards to patriarchy, I side firmly with Duke. However, there's only so much this movie can address and a lot of it is above mine or the film's pay grade.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by you "siding firmly with Duke"? That surprises me.

I was half joking but I just don't really think anything she says is all that off base when it comes to the subject of men and power. Duke is not a real philosophy though, she's a character in a story.

Heh, sorry. As you might've noticed I can't help but view media through a political lens. And Bit is a goddamned buffet in that regard. I honestly can't remember the last time compulsively examining the political themes in a movie made me like it more rather than less.

I'm an open book. I feel I risk overstaying my welcome or looking like I'm asking for cookies but the truth is I just need to get the movie out there damnit and am willing to engage anyone and everyone as best as I can.

Well that's ironic because I was starting to worry that I was badgering you with too many questions

No. If anything I am bringing it on myself and have a lot to answer for, being me. I'm only on twitter again to push the film since Covid tanked it's theatrical release, making the distributor dump it. So if I'm gonna rabble rouse and hype, I am happy to be grilled.

*fires up the grill* The whole "I am Duke" thing surprised me because Laurel's ending assertion that patriarchy is learned and can be un-learned, it's not innate, it's power/hierarchy that's bad, not masculinity, was one of the most emotionally moving aspects of the film for me.

I wouldn't take that comment so seriously frankly. I am Duke because I wrote Duke, obviously I don't want to die or be discarded. She's an indictment and a way for me to negotiate my space in this world and where I may be doing damage or have done damage.

Right, you said it was a half-joke. I def know what it's like to make one of those and then see it subjected to way more scrutiny than it was built to withstand.

He previously said his "self-insert" in the movie, if it wasn't Duke, is the pretentious "male feminist" artist the vampires make cruel sport of before they drain and kill him Which, yeah, I get it
