Fun fact, I never wanted VO but the producers threatened to add their own (with one of the other actors) if I didn't because one of them watched Jennifer's Body one night. I came up with those on the spot and ran them by Nicole to see if she was comfortable.

There were a few options for the ending but she wanted the pregnant joke. And yeah it still hopefully functions as a dig at Twilight. Which is funny because I don't really have it out for those movies at all.

The meta in the VOs is interesting, like Laurel outright knows she's in a vampire movie, which isn't really how she acts about it in the story proper, although presumably she's narrating with the benefit of hindsight

I'd remove it completely. Wasn't supposed to be there. The thing is, I wrote a movie to snipe a niche, it came out pretty good, and there was intense meddling to broaden it's appeal, without the meddlers even understanding how that's effectively done.

Hey I've been meaning to ask, how "political" did you intend Bit to be? Laurel's "share the power" ending felt to me like a straightforward anarchocommunist parable, contrasted with Duke's more authoritarian ML mindset.

Most trans people I know are some flavor of far leftist so that being a central ideological struggle of the story (intertwined with the whole "Is patriarchy stored in the balls" essentialism debate) gave the whole thing an extra layer of authenticity for me.

There was two major themes I was going for what it is to be an adult and how you're responsible for your actions (Laurel, which was butchered in the edit) And minority voices needing access to power to give it more nuance (which I believe remains intact)

taking responsibility--that's an interesting theme. the movie as it stands struck me as exploring the idea that, well, figuring yourself out is a selfish thing /and that's okay./ it's okay to not always be available to do other people's emotional labor--

that you're not actually required to show up on demand and tell people that you're fine, everything's fine, everything's great that you can just say, look, i am in some weird shit of my own (figuring out that i'm trans / a vampire), i don't have time to perform that for you

and uh for some Personal Reasons this really struck a chord with me especially because it's so counter to the standard message about growing up, becoming mature--becoming a Normal Adult, that is

Right, getting bitten permanently rips away the dream of being Normal - there is no cure, the only two choices are be a vampire or die
