one person makes more money than me isn't really an argument-- this is kinda common sense though, glenn is stating the obvious -- people who reflect the views of the most media organizations are gonna have a less difficult time making more money than those who don't.

They're going to be competing with a much larger pool of people for audience share

fair enough. That being said, Glenn is an anomaly given his luck in getting the Snowden files and someone with his general profile would be driven out of the mainstream discourse if they were in the mainstream, and not just because of what the audiences want.

So what? There's more money to be made in "niche" markets anyway, some of which are huge Joe Rogan's whole shtick is that he's not "mainstream", same with the Chapo guys

i dunno, ya made me think --- could most people make more money by starting their own podcasts in a sea of millions of dirtbag left/bro podcasts or by playing to the crowd of people with purse strings who own and manage media institutions?

I think the people who do make it in the podcast market are the people who abandoned mainstream media careers because of their "unpopular opinions", and made thousands of times as much money as their erstwhile colleagues because of the smaller pond

I think most total randos who try to start a dirtbag podcast were never going to make any money doing that but they wouldn't make money no matter what they were trying to do Someone like Will Menaker acting like he's one of those randos and not the Elite is an obvious lie

Look, since you're stanning for Greenwald and Grim, I'll go there Aaron Coleman can only exist because his persona is an "unpopular opinion" persona People like him win seats because they present as "socialists" on the Left or "libertarians" on the Right

Someone with Aaron Coleman's horrific personal record and completely blank resume would never have gotten any traction in politics at all if his opinions were also mainstream Democrat opinions This is completely obvious to anyone who isn't being a disingenuous turd about it

It's not saying the opinions are wrong or bad -- indeed, a lot of the momentum behind the Coleman Defense Squad is because of how easy it was to pivot to his policy platform and make people reluctant to engage who'd otherwise full-throatedly condemn him

But movements that are lost in the political wilderness are the ones that are most vulnerable to being exploited by grifters, cranks and people who are generally losers Everyone knows this The Chapo guys themselves decry this when dunking on colleagues they dislike
