I would be both horrified and shocked if it turned out he were literally a father
I just want to reiterate how disgusted I am that this dude who was drooling over demon girls in booty shorts in 2010 and had his sudden Damascus Road moment in 2011 thinks he can fucking go back in time and scold Bill Watterson in like 1990 and Charles Schultz in 1960 for sexism
Normally I deplore "You can't criticize this Great Man, what have YOU done?" as an argument But GOD Ishida sucks so bad
Both Calvin and Hobbes and Peanuts are obviously flawed products of their time and are the creations of white men with a limited POV They are also both infinitely smarter and more empathetic about gender than EITHER the "old" or "new" version of Sinfest EVER were
Jesus Christ you think you're actually TELLING anyone anything by helpfully pointing out that Calvin is a misogynistic little turd and his life is actually really pathetic and lonely Or that Charlie Brown should feel bad for being weird and creepy around the LRHG all the time
I just reread the entirety of C&H and yeah, there are maybe a handful of strips featuring Susie that aren't unambiguously on her side. One could dive into all sorts of analysis, but, as with the Snapewives, anybody who misses that glaringly obvious theme isn't reading it right
After the first Susie arc (where Watterson dropped the idea that Calvin and Susie have an actual mutual crush on each other, something he's repeatedly said he thinks was a huge mistake) it is frequent subtext and at a few points text that Susie only tolerates Calvin out of pity
That she still lets Calvin mess with her to the degree he does because he's clearly an extremely lonely fucked up kid and she feels bad Now that is, itself, a gendered trope with a lot of problematic implications when extended to adult life But Ishida isn't really engaging that
He's making it easy on himself by turning it into a simple narrative where Moe oppresses Calvin so Calvin oppresses Susie even though the whole point of this particular setup is Calvin has hardly any power to oppress anyone
