@TheWatch will succeed or fail on its own merits. But watching the recent talk around the show, I feel I should point out that there are many fine actors & crew involved who’ve worked hard on this. On which note, it seems that EVERY time US media crews get their hands on a UK property they try to nail it to their procrustean bed of cultural assumptions. (Don’t ask me about the Laundry Files TV treatment from 10 years ago …!)

There’s something quintessentially 18th/19th century English about Sam Vimes et al, and the producers/writers on

Executive producers Hilary Simon (Luther) and Phil Collinson (Doctor Who) are both Brits too I dunno, speaking as an American who consumes a fair amount of British media and thinks I can tell the difference, that trailer didn't feel *American* to me, just bad

Like I've seen the words "punk rock" used to praise this show so many times it really feels like Allen is one of those people who wants to put two of his personal cultural obsessions together ("Why can't all of Discworld be set to a Sex Pistols soundtrack") critics be damned
