Look, I think it's fairly obvious that @TheWatch shares no DNA with my father's Watch. This is neither criticism nor support. It is what it is.

UPDATE:
@TheWatch will succeed or fail on its own merits. But watching the recent talk around the show, I feel I should point out that there are many fine actors & crew involved who’ve worked hard on this. If you don’t like what you’ve seen, then please don’t take it out on them.46 replies 261 retweets 2,033 likesShow this thread -
On which note, it seems that EVERY time US media crews get their hands on a UK property they try to nail it to their procrustean bed of cultural assumptions. (Don’t ask me about the Laundry Files TV treatment from 10 years ago …!)

I don't think it is limited to UK properties, they are perfectly capable to ruin the work of American authors as well.

Yeah, but it’s especially egregious and/or obvious with non-Amercan properties. (Do I need to mention the “Ghost in the Shell” live-action movie starring Scarlett Johansson as a Japanese woman?) Keywords include: cultural appropriation …

Johannsson's casting was not the worst part of that movie. The problem is that even if Motoko Kusanagi does not look Japanese, she is Japanese and acts like it.

It was the worst part in the sense that whatever benefits she brought as an actress and in terms of star power clearly did not justify the massive cost of hiring her, which took up so much of the film's budget as to make reshoots almost impossible

True, a good movie can make a star, but a star usually can't make a movie good.
