I want people who say "Wow for someone who says they never really liked Harry Potter very much you sure know a lot about those books and JK Rowling" to understand that I had about as much choice in that as I did knowing about Jesus and Christianity

I remember reading the books while sitting in the book section of the grocery store, waiting for parents/grandparents/whatever relative we're visiting this week to finish shopping and thinking, quite clearly, "I could take a weed whacker to this and it wouldn't change the plot."

I’d say it’s more like absorbing The Simpsons without watching. I’m older than Friends’ popularity and my coworkers made it impossible for 30 yo me to escape.

I was 15 when the first book came out, so way too old for it, it wasn't part of my childhood, but you would have to go to closed order convent style lengths to avoid learning anything about it.
