I wish there was a way to tell who was awake so I could DM them guess I'll slide into all of y'all's timeline rather than DMs. What is the most accepted catch all term for the thing I'm always ranting about, "cottagecore," "pastelpunk," "cartoon or cartoon like soft media"

In the world of anime it's called iyashikei, "healing"

I think that's the best term that most directly captures what you're talking about It's unfortunately one of those anime terms mostly known in Japan When people talk about "moe" like it's a genre of fiction they really mean "iyashikei"

Your other terms are a little too specific, like "cottagecore" means rural/farming stuff, "pastelpunk" literally means "punk outfits but with pastel colors", etc.

Hm, I wonder what I could do to avoid directly using the Japanese term. I don't want to be That Gaijin Who Convinced Everything a Japanese Word Meant Something It Didn't Innocence-punk? Maybe I should just rant against innocence as a concept

Just translate it into English, "healing" or "soothing" media

Hm. Is there like a TVTropes page or similar for that kind of anime? I just don't want to make a cross cultural reference, go viral, and have misgeneralized about cultures

Yeah I learned about it from TVTropeshttps://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Iyashikei …

TVTropes, notably, treats it as an anime-specific term and only lists examples from that medium And when giving pointers to find non-anime examples that are similar points to the wholly negative entries "Tastes Like Diabetes" and "Glurge"
