The Founders would not only have voted to remove Trump after impeachment, but would have strung him up for treason. They wouldn't have tolerated any of this GOP treachery.

It's not clear why the founding fathers had an electoral college, but my sense is that one of the big reasons was because a popular vote wouldn't work because states had wildly different suffrages.

Yeah if they had a popular vote it would’ve forced slave states to choose between either letting slaves vote, or not letting slaves vote but letting the state have minimal political power because more voters would be from non-slave states.
