I mean, in the first book Harry spends the whole book thinking Snape is the bad guy *because Snape is a dick to Harry personally*, and then it turns out he isn't the bad guy. That's also the arc of the series as a whole.

I am 100% convinced she wrote in the U-turn on Snape after he got cast with Alan Rickman. Like he does a SHARP turn from 'bullying shithead' to 'dark antihero' around book 4/5. Which is just around when the first film came out.

Nah. I mean, maybe the image of the character physically, sure. But he was clearly intended to be not actually evil from go. Dumbledore CONSTANTLY drives this into Harry, and the audience is trained to trust that Dumbledore is no fool.
