Yeah the gender gap in this election is also... wild It's a 44-point split, Biden is up 31 points with women and Trump is up 13 points with men The fact that it's not just Trump losing women massively but *gaining with men* in response says... bad things about male societyhttps://twitter.com/Lenoxus/status/1314198012223270912 …

Scary considering how many more white women will probably cave and vote for him anyway, just to appease their husbands and dads, etc...

One of the downsides of vote-by-mail we don't really talk about -- because most of the people who oppose vote-by-mail are Republicans for whom it isn't a downside -- is how it compromises the secret ballot Old-school voting normalizes having a private place to cast your ballot

Oregonians have never had to compromise between a secret ballet and mail-in voting

Yes, it is compromised I'm not talking about the ballot remaining "secret" after you fill it out I'm talking about people who have no control over their private lives at home and who can therefore *never* have a "secret ballot" if vote-by-mail is normalized

Like even if you normalize getting a ballot at the polling place as an *option*, as many states do, once it's *optional* then if you're in a controlling/abusive situation it's not an option available to you They can force you to request vote-by-mail and punish you if you don't

I do think that, overall, for the vast majority of people's situations, vote-by-mail is by far the better option and universal vote-by-mail will obviously get you a closer approximation of "the will of the people" than otherwise But it's still fucked up that this stuff happens

And unfortunately I don't see a solution to it happening as long as abusive households exist

Mandatory, in-person only voting could solve /this/ problem, but... (in-person at-home voting? an observer comes over to verify secrecy? it'd never work but I'm enjoying the thought process)
