"Anyone criticizing the higher ups' decisions and policies is insulting the rank & file" How can one claim to be on the rank & file's side when they want the bad decisions that harm them to go on unchallenged?

The whole reason for the cultural clash here is that the fascist mindset -- like the monarchist mindset, like the right wing in general -- believes the leadership and the rank-and-file are a single unit, one organism, the state as a human body

And therefore they think they can and should dictate that the rank-and-file react to any insult to the leadership as though they were insulted, because they're *part of* the leadership, as much as your hand is a part of you To them this is the natural way to think

And the populist/egalitarian POV, that all human beings no matter how lowborn they are have the right to autonomy, is arguing for your hands and feet's right to flail randomly about, is arguing for the body to die riddled with tumors and cancer It's a fundamental disagreement

I think it's a deep disagreement on a spiritual level When I say "Okay but if your family or your community or your country mistreats you, you should just leave" it's like I'm arguing for spiritual death You don't *exist* unless you're part of something

Which ignores -or I should say deny- the fact that when you leave, you end up joining, building up another group.

That's why I think the "It get betters" campaign was met with so much hostility by reactionaries when it launched 10 years ago.

"If you reject your family/community us you'll be left alone in the cold" doesn't hold much power as a threat if there's a new community and the possibility to found a family of your own just outside the ghetto your parents trapped you in.

Yes, this is why TERFs have gone full-conservative and argued that ANYONE who undermines your parents' authority and provides a community you could turn to in your parents' absence is engaging in sinister "grooming"

More than merely conservative: they went full fledged reactionaries and "you're a minor who owes filial deference to your parents till they die" because that's the only answer left for them when, say, a 30 years old trans woman says her parents were abusive and full of shit.

Lol filiality doesn't even stop when your parents die, like they'll launch harassment at someone choosing to tranition in their 60s because by doing so they're insulting the memory of all their dead ancestors
